Koonthal Fry | Squid Fry | Koonthal Porichathu

It is a delicious sea food dish eaten as a side dish with rice, chappathi, etc. Its a south Indian delicasy, prepared with added spice powders, where the marinated squid is shallow fried and then mixed with masala and stir fried until dry.

Ingredients

  • Squid - 1/4 kg
  • Onion - 1 (sliced)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli - 2 (slit)
  • Red Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Leaves - 1 tsp
  • Fennel Powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Curry Leaves
  • Oil

FOR MARINATION:-

  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
  • Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Marinate squid with the ingredients mentioned under "For Marination" and keep for 1/2 hour.
  2. Heat oil, shallow fry the squid and keep aside. In the same oil, saute ginger garlic paste and green chilli for 1 minute. Add onion and cook till the color changes. Add spice powders and salt, mix and cook till raw smell fades. Add 3 tbsp water and continue to cook for a minute.
  3. Add squid and mix well till masala coats on squid. Cook till dry and stir in between. Once done, add curry leaves and mix. Serve hot.
