Koonthal Puttu | Kanava Puttu | Squid Puttu Recipe
It is a deliciously packed dish where the spicy squid roast is layered between the steam cake and then steam cooked. The dish fills your home with its fragrant and this recipe definitely needs to be tried by everyone.

Ingredients
- Squid - 1/2 kg (cooked)
- Onion - 1 (medium, sliced)
- Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tbsp
- Green Chilli - 2 (chopped)
- Tomato - 1 (sliced)
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Pepper Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Salt
- Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
- Grated Coconut - as needed
- Rice Powder - 1 1/2 cup
- Coriander Leaves
- Curry Leaves
- oil
FOR MARINATION:-
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Pepper Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Salt
- Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
Instructions
- Marinate Squid with the ingredients mentioned under "For Marination" and keep for 1 hour. Cook the squid adding 1/2 cup of water and keep aside.
- Heat oil, add ginger garlic paste, onion and green chilli and saute till color changes and turns transulent. Add curry leaves and saute. Add tomato, saute till soft and mushy.
- Add spice powders, salt, mix well and cook till raw smell fades. Add cooked squid along with the stock and mix well. Add lemon juice and mix well. Add coriander leaves and mix further, cover and cook till squid roast is semi thick.
- In steamer, add 2 spoons of grated coconut, add 2 spoons of rice powder and 1 spoon of squid roast, continue the process till cocount is covered on top. Steam cook for 5 minutes or till done.
